Create a new M3 project
Only Monash staff members can apply and lead M3 projects.
PhD/HDR students must ask their supervisor to apply for a Monash M3 project; alternatively PhD/HDR students are eligible to apply for an M3 project under our PEACH scheme.
Generally, a CI (Chief Investigator) may only lead one active M3 project at a time. Please contact our help desk if you think you need multiple M3 projects.
Please wait up to 2 weeks for your project request to be approved or rejected.
Access to M3 is open and free of charge to all users who secure an allocation through a Partner, Affiliate Partner or merit allocation scheme, or use the system through an integrated instrument.
New projects are requested by a member of University Faculty or Institutional Research Staff and should be the lead CI (Chief Investigator) on the research project.
The below methods are available for access.
Access through an M3 partner or Affiliate Partner Share
M3 Partners are:
- Monash University
- Australian Nuclear Science and Technology (ANSTO)
M3 Affiliate Partners are:
- ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Cryo-electron Microscopy of Membrane Proteins (CCEMMP)
- Australian Catholic University, Healthy Brain and Mind Research Centre
If you belong to one of these, then you can request an M3 project by filling out this project request form.
Monash researchers from Malaysia
Malaysia-based researchers and PhD/HDR students can join an existing M3 project when invited by the project CI.
If a researcher is from Monash Malaysia and requesting a new M3 project, eResearch would first encourage them to explore the use of their local HPC facility. If this is not suitable, the researcher can request an M3 allocation by providing strong justification for why they need to use M3 and how they will use it.
Access to M3 via the PEACH (Personal Easy Allocation of Compute on HPC) scheme
Monash PhD students are invited to submit small project allocations (PEACH) via the above M3 project request form. Please make sure you select PEACH under Project Association. For more information see the MonARCH Docs Page.
Access through an Integrated Instrument
MASSIVE M3 is integrated with microscopes at The Clive and Vera Ramaciotti Centre for Structural Cryo Electron Microscopy at Monash University.
Researchers capturing data on these facilities should email our help desk or talk to the relevant microscopy facility manager.
